  • Kintamani Tour
  • (Ubud – Goa Gajah – Tampaksiring (TirtaEmpul) – Kintamani – (Pura Ulun Danu + vulcano-view) – Klungkung (Kertha Gosa) – Gianyar (Pantai Lebih) – Ubud)

From Ubud we go direction south-east. The first destination is Goa Gajah in Bedulu, one of the oldest temples of Bali. This old temple was discovered in 1923 by western archeologists. The big demon-like head above the entrance reminded the discoverers of an elephant. But that was a mistake. The origin of this temple is buddhistic. Close to the cave and temple was also discovered a watering-place.

The next destination is more to the north, Tirtha Empul , a big waterplace near Tampaksiring. This holy spring is often used to clean the masks of the Barong-dancers before big ceremonies. From Tampaksiring the way leads to the high in the mountains situated Kintamani, where by clear air, the view on the volcanoes Batur and Agung is amazing. The diverse eruptions of the Gunung Batur are obvious in the variety of vegetation. Nearby we visit the Pura Ulun Danu, an extensive temple-complex, which contains as well Hinduistic as Buddhistic sanctuaries.

From here we go south-east to Klungkung, where we visit the Kerta Gosa, the remains of the former palace of the king. The original state of the impressively decorated buildings are in remarkable good condition. The museum gives a short impression of the catastrophic fall of the king and his family.

From Klungkung we go to the south along the coastal road and make a stop at Pantai Lebih, fishermans beach, where the small, colourful katamarans of the fishermen lie in the black, sparkling sand. At this place, the local population comes for fresh, delicious prepared fish and romance, but you are also very welcome.

From Pantai Lebih we go back to Ubud, passing Gianyar.

  • Tenganan Tour
  • (Ubud – Goa Gajah – Klungkung (Kertha Gosa) – Goa Lawah – Tenganan – Sidemen Road – Ubud)

From Ubud we go direction south-east. The first destination is Goa Gajah in Bedulu, one of the oldest tempels in Bali. This old temple was discovered in 1923 by western archeologists. The big demon-like head above the entrance reminded the discoverers of an elephant, but that was a mistake. The origin of this temple is Buddhistic. Close to the cave ans temple was also discovered a watering-place.

The next destination is Klungkung, where we visit the Kerta Gosa, the remains of the former palace of the king. The original state of the impressively decorated buildings are in remarkable good condition. The museum gives a short impression of the catastrophic fall of the king and his family.

From Klungkung we go 6 kilometers along a coastal road to Goa Lawah, the bat cave. In this cave live thousands of fluttering, screaming bats. In front of the cave is the Pura Goa Lawah, an old Shiva-temple, probably over 1000 years old. The local people believe, that an enormous snake lives in the cave, the Naga Basuki, the holy snake of the Gunung Agung. After visiting Goa Lawah we move the inland direction to the original Balinese village Tenganan, which is famous because of its weavings. The technique of Tenganan is known as “double-ikat”, a technique, in which the decorative pattern of the weaving is painted on the warp as well on the woof before weaving. Except for these special weavings, the village is very interesting because of its original construction.
From here, we return to Ubud, passing the famous Sidemen Road, showing us a beautiful landscape.

  • Tanah Lot Tour
  • (Ubud – Mengwi (Taman Ayun) – Sangeh (monkey forest) - Tanah Lot – Ubud)

From Ubud we go westward to the monkey forest of Sangeh. The forest has trees with a length of over 30 meters and in the middle of the forest you find the Bukit Sari Temple (= nectar from the mountains). The temple was built in the 17th century by the royal family of Mengwi and dedicated to Vishnu. Thereafter we visit the Pura Taman Ayun, after the Besakih temple one of the biggest temple complexes in Bali and also one of the most beautiful. The original temple was built in 1634 and restorated in 1937. Around the inner part of the temple is a canal with waterlilies, which makes it fairytale-like.

The last destination is Tanah Lot. This temple is very famous because of its position in the sea and only reachable at low tide. The temple, built on a rock in the sea, looks mysterious and picturesque and is therefore the most photographed temple of eastern Asia. It is known as a refuge for snakes, considered as holy guards of the temple. The temple was built by order of Sang Hiyang Nirarta, the last priest, coming from Java to Bali, centuries ago. The temple is very beautiful at sunset; a pilgrim place for romantic people.
